AVM

Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi, the sage of Arunachala, gave a simple but direct path of self-inquiry (Who Am I?) to discover one’s true Self and abide in it.Ramana Maharshi’s teaching rooted in Advaita Vedanta expounded by Sri Adishankara has got a charm of it own, wherein the seeker is guided to seek his own source without getting caught in the web of philosophical jargons and religious dogmas.

Twin Ideals of AVM!

Atma Vichara

To abide in one’s own Self is auspicious… To forget One’s Self is inauspicious…This is the crux of the teaching. How to abide in One’s Self? For that one has to know One’s Self (Atma). But the true Self is not an object to be recognized through a thought process.. It is the very subject which illuminates all the thoughts! Then how to go about? Bhagawan Sri Ramana Maharshi shows a simple path, which is direct and uncomplicated. It is like hitting the bull’s eye! The path of Self inquiry (Atma Vichara). Now what is our idea about the self? We take ourselves to be this form, the body. Can it really be our self? It is just inert.. But we are alive, conscious and full of dynamism. Therefore this body cannot be me though it serves me as a vehicle. Then who am I? This is Self Inquiry! Mounam is the true nature of the self! How can it be explained through words?

Arunachala Smarana

Smaranat Arunachalam – just by remembering Arunachala one attains mukti goes the ancient saying. Arunachala Kshetram or Tiruvannamalai is a sacred place (Siva bhoomi) where Lord Siva appeared as an infinte column of light to bless the world. Later, on the request of the devotees, He assumed the form of the holy hill Arunachala. Bhagawan Sri Ramana Maharshi says ‘Mountains like Himalayas and mount Meru are only the abodes of Lord Siva, whereas Arunachala is Lord Siva himself!’. Inhabitated by saints, sages and siddha purushas, Arunachala is a powerful spiritual center (heart) of the world. Lord Siva himself assures in Skanda Purana that ‘those who reside in three yojana (30kms) radius of Arunachala (practicing austerities) would attain Siva Sayujya (liberation) without much effort’.
